Faces of TJE: A Decade of Dedication: Bob Lackner

Bob Lackner finds deep spiritual nourishment and education through his involvement with The Jewish Experience (TJE). For over a decade, Bob has participated in TJE programs, including Rabbi Leban’s Lunch and Learn sessions and weekly Talmud classes. These sessions have become an essential part of his life. “It’s a mandatory thing on my calendar,” Bob explains. “I’ve always wanted to study Talmud, and under Rabbi Leban’s tutelage, I’ve gained incredible insights.”
Bob and his wife Patricia also attend Shabbat dinners, speaker events, and other TJE programs. While Patricia has taken part in TJE-affiliated trips to Israel and become active in its women’s division, Bob sees their shared involvement as a cornerstone of their Jewish journey. “TJE is an organization we believe in and get so much from,” he says.
“I feel blessed to be part of this community.”
Jewish values play a central role in Bob’s life. He emphasizes the importance of treating others with respect and dignity, reflecting the Torah’s teachings to “love your neighbor as yourself.” “These values guide how I interact with others, conduct myself, and approach philanthropy,” Bob explains. He and his wife prioritize supporting Jewish organizations, with their most meaningful contributions directed toward initiatives that strengthen the Jewish community.
October 7th brought a profound shift in Bob’s connection to Judaism and Israel. “I’ve always been a proud Jew and Zionist,” he says, “but recent events have deepened those feelings.” He finds himself more engaged than ever, increasing his synagogue attendance, consuming Jewish content, and staying connected to current events. “It’s horrible what happened to Israeli victims and the rise in antisemitism globally,” Bob reflects. “But I feel we’re striking back—not just militarily, but by strengthening our identity and community.”
Through TJE and other initiatives, Bob sees hope in the collective resilience of the Jewish people. “Rabbi Leban is an inspiring teacher,” he notes. “I feel blessed to be part of this community.” Bob’s dedication to learning and living Jewish values exemplifies the strength that comes from embracing faith and tradition in challenging times.
