Judaism You Want to Show Up For
A Conversation with Adam and Barbara Moskowitz
Adam and Barbara Moskowitz are leaders in the Denver Jewish community, partners in life, and deeply committed champions of The Jewish Experience. Adam serves as President of TJE’s Board of Directors, while Barbara is actively involved in Women’s Experience programming and brings her unique gifts to the community as a matchmaker with JDenver. Both are engaged across many Jewish organizations, and TJE is fortunate to be part of the Jewish landscape they help shape. What draws them back to The Jewish Experience, again and again, is something that’s easy to feel the moment you walk in the door: a Judaism that feels alive.
For Adam and Barbara, the most meaningful moments of the past year weren’t defined by a single program or event, but by the atmosphere itself. Shabbat dinners where conversations drift naturally between depth and humor. Community gatherings where people of different ages, backgrounds, and levels of observance coexist with ease. Spaces where belonging is felt immediately, without explanation. “There’s something really beautiful about seeing people come together and feeling genuinely welcomed,” Barbara shared. “People can have real conversations, but they can also just have fun. Seeing everyone together, across generations, has been incredibly meaningful.”
Adam sees the same dynamic at work from another angle. When people walk into TJE, he says, they don’t feel the need to perform or conform. “You get folks from all over the spectrum, all different backgrounds, and somehow everyone finds common ground. Sometimes you make a new friend. Sometimes it’s a warm interaction. Either way, there’s a comfort there that makes you want to stay.”
“You’re welcomed as you are. That joy and openness are what allow learning to really happen.”
That sense of comfort is foundational. The warmth, humor, and authenticity of TJEs Rabbis and educators invite people in and set the tone for meaningful learning. Laughter isn’t a distraction from the experience; it’s often the doorway into it. And when they open up, growth follows. Adam and Barbara’s connection to TJE is deeply personal. They are participants as much as they are leaders.
“What brings me the most joy is that we’re part of it,” Barbara explained. “Whether it’s the Challah Bake, Wine & Cheese, or a special speaker, we’re experiencing it alongside everyone else. It’s not just about giving. It’s about being inside these moments and helping create meaning together.”
For Adam, that sense of meaning has unfolded over time. All of his children attended the Sunday Experience, where Jewish learning became something joyful and engaging rather than obligatory. Later, an Israel trip with TJE Rabbis deepened his own relationship with Judaism, opening a new layer of understanding and connection. “That experience really changed how I saw Judaism,” he reflected. “It made me want to help other families and individuals experience that same depth and beauty. TJE has a unique ability to reach Jews wherever they are.”
Both Adam and Barbara point to the philosophy of meeting people where they are as central to what makes The Jewish Experience different. When people feel understood and respected, they lean in. Adam describes it simply: “You’re welcomed as you are. That joy and openness are what allow learning to really happen.”
Through their leadership, generosity, and presence, Adam and Barbara help make possible a Judaism people want to show up for — one that feels warm rather than intimidating, joyful rather than performative, and deeply connected to real life. Their commitment ensures that these moments of connection continue for individuals, families, and the broader community.
