The Olami Denver Experience sent a group of 8 young professionals to join a Volunteer trip through Taglit’s OU Israel Free Spirit program. After October 7th Birthright created a new program in which young professionals ages 20-40 are able to go volunteer in Israel– even if they already did birthright! The group was based in Jerusalem, but spent two days packing boxes of food in a warehouse, and three days helping farmers. After October 7th many of the foreign workers on farms left Israel, causing a devastating blow to farms in Israel. As such, we came to help uproot rotten tomato vines in a greenhouse so that new crops could be planted in the near future. We also helped picked cucumbers from the greenhouse, which was very helpful to the farm. On our last full day we visited the Nova festival site, and the location where all the cars have been gathered. As these pictures show, however, life in Israel continues. Indeed, it was beautiful to see the Jewish people celebrate life in the streets of Jerusalem.
If any young professionals are interested in a program like this in January, please reach out to Rabbi Wolfe at [email protected].
