A man arrives at a Shabbaton in the mountains and asks the rabbi, “Rabbi, why do we have to come all the way up here to feel closer to God?”
The rabbi smiles. “Sometimes we need to get away from the noise and distractions of everyday life to hear what really matters.”
The man thinks for a moment, then asks:

If one peruses even superficially the history of the world clearly there have been many generations of evil corrupt people. Was it truly necessary to have all these wicked individuals? Couldn’t we have just had generations that also contained righteous and outstanding people?
