Parshas Noach
Candlelighting Time 5:50
Although Man was created in a very near to perfection state, mankind descended to the abyss of denial with involvement in idolatry and rejection of Hashem. Perhaps the ultimate denunciation was the infamous Tower of Babel. There are many interpretations as to the intent of those who resolved to construct this massive erection, however, clearly they did not have a pure objective.
Chofetz Chaim approaches this episode from a different perspective. Hashem disrupted their project stating that if they continue to operate under this aegis, then whatever they decide to accomplish will be fulfilled. He cites the words of Sforno who explains that if they will continue and successfully complete their idolatrous design the world will revere what they have established and they will not direct their attention to Hashem, the Creator of the Universe and all that which is contained within. That mankind would be led astray indefinitely was unconscionable. Therefore, it was necessary to interrupt them and destroy their unified effort.
The parsha detailing this event clearly defines that the factors of this circumstance were determined by an incredibly unified and cohesive group. Even though their intent was evil and would have corrupted the entire world’s advancement and enhancement, nonetheless unity would have prevailed and they would have enjoyed success. The power of a unified force is clearly obvious from this parsha and we need to take notice of its strength. He adds that when Hashem ‘allows’ the influence of immorality and debasement, the impact of positivity is a 500 to 1 ratio. Imagine the potency of our nation explosively intensifying due to a herculean base of harmony and unison within our ranks and our potential for realization of multiple goals and the accomplishment of the summit of our hopes and wishes that our nation will strive forward and we will great Moshiach speedily and in our days.
We have observed a incredible surge of transformation within our nation as a result of the horrific attack that we suffered on Simchas Torah two years ago. Strife and contention were present and we lacked sufficient protection from Hashem to shield us from the enemy. The losses that we endured cannot be recouped but the simcha that has soothed the pain and agony of so many widows and orphans is viewed by Hashem as a saving grace. The extent of unification in placating the needs of the many of our people that were ravaged by the ruthless and atrocious onslaught that occurred has regrouped our people into a unanimity and solidarity that is incomparable in recent times.
Unfortunately, such a level of unanimity is difficult to maintain and we must attempt in a supreme manner to continue this amicable and pleasant mood that we find ourselves to be in as the year continues and onward.
A BYTE FOR SHABBOS
Originally everyone spoke the language that Adam was created with, Loshon Hakodesh, the holy tongue. When the nations were dispersed at the time of the Tower of Babel they lost that intimate connection to Hashem that we still possess. It is the language of the soul which is empowered with that power of speech which initially we were endowed with. We continue to have that strength and with that we can persist to strive forward.
